What’s wrong with Porn?

Bridge alone

Contrary to some reports you might read in Cosmo and Men’s Health, pornography is not healthy. We’re starting to see very specific side effects from regular pornography usage.

The true enjoyment of life comes from actual, physical and emotional relationships. True intimacy. Lasting joy doesn’t come from an artificial sexual encounter. It comes from being aligned with your personal set of values and morals. Being porn-free allows for more enjoyable sex, better relationships, deeper internal peace. It allows you to be authentic and real.

Pornography Affects Real Relationships

Our brains are not equipped to handle the level of arousal and stimulation that porn provides. Porn, like heroin and other drugs, releases a neuro-cocktail of dopamine and other chemicals that can have many negative effects. In the right doses, in the right environment, these chemical reactions in the brain are healthy and amazing. They can help spouses or partners bond and achieve true and lasting intimacy. They are natures way of creating love and loyalty. When you view porn, with such explicit and extreme situations, with regularity, it distorts reality. You are actually emotionally bonding with an illusion of a person or situation, not the real thing. This confuses the mind and makes actual relationships difficult or unsatisfying. You begin objectifying women or men as sexual toys and strip them down in your mind from being actual human beings with feelings and thoughts, over to nothing but a potential erotic moment or experience. You look at your girlfriend/boyfriend or spouse/partner as someone that must please you like those pictures and videos instead of as an intimate, loving, friend and lover. Pornography changes the way you look and think about other people.

Pornography is Socially Harmful

You may think while watching pornography that those on screen are fully enjoying themselves. The truth is, the vast majority of those managing the porn business are brutal and opportunistic, taking advantage of desperate and hesitant victims. Sex trafficking has been a major problem that has grown by leaps and bounds since pornography has reached so many via the internet. We just had someone email us recently that admitted to being so addicted to porn, that pornography alone did not fully satisfy them anymore, so they would regularly travel to NYC to purchase under-aged Chinese prostitutes. It is well documented and known that Ted Bundy, the famous serial killer, admitted that pornography was what he attributed as his introduction to the objectification and his violence toward women. He claimed that when porn no longer satisfied him, it led him to rape and then murder to hide his actions. We’re not saying that you’ll become Ted Bundy if you watch porn, obviously, but what we’re illustrating is that by supporting and engaging in porn, you are increasing the appetite the world has of porn. That, in turn, helps fuel the machine that produces and creates pornography. When speaking to a previous porn addict, he stated that there were two major things that helped him overcome his pornography addiction. Firstly, it was realizing that he was supporting something that went against his values and the vision of the world he wanted to provide for his wife and daughters. And secondly, he discovered an understanding of how addiction worked and how he could turn it around.

Some View Porn As A Moral Issue Or A Conflict To Their Personal Values

Pornography goes against many peoples values or moral compass. The negative aspects of pornography include but are not limited to: Emotional cheating on a spouse or partner, selfishness, a disregard for lives ruined by sex trafficking/prostitution, sexual sin, slothfulness, wasting of time, objectification, secrecy, guilt, shame, hypocrisy, etc.

We’re not here to judge or cause pain by addressing these issues. At Innergold, it is our hope to provide clarity and direction for those who seek help and change. We’re here to help identify and address the problem of pornography in our society. Many programs out there focus only on faith or religion. Some others give good advice and some useful tools to abstain, but lack longevity in their solutions. The Innergold: Recovery Simplified program is an online based, video series that provides the same principles and solutions from solid scientific research and understanding of the brain. It is not useful to look at pornography addiction as simply a moral problem. It is a disorder of the brain and it can be reversed. We believe that faith and hope are vital necessities in this journey, but they alone cannot reach lasting sobriety for most suffering with this issue. A combination of science and action are required. Begin the road to recovery with us. We have helped countless individuals become the best possible versions of themselves.
